Here are a few of the core benefits you’ll receive as a member of the Charleston Restaurant Association.
Political influence & access to lawmakers
at the state and local level
When you become a member at the Charleston Restaurant Association, you’re also a member of the state AND national restaurant associations – both of whom are constantly monitoring and responding to legislative issues that affect your business.
Through Political Action Committees, the state and local associations lobby and support legislation that supports the restaurant industry. Recent issues include:
- minimum wage
- smoking bans
- big liquor bottles vs mini bottles
- health and sanitation
- unionization
As sponsors of the political networking event “lunch on the lawn,” you’ll gain access to lawmakers in Columbia during a yearly event on the steps of the statehouse. You’ll also receive up-to-date contact lists and information on restaurant-friendly legislators.

Events & networking opportunities
Local meetings where you’ll learn from your peers and related industry suppliers & merchants. Learn how to run your business better or find a great deal on that frying vat.
Quarterly member meetings where you’ll hear from local thought leaders and experienced restauranteurs on a variety of restaurant-specific issues like:
- best practices for controlling labor & food costs – the biggest drivers of profitability (or loss) for restaurants
- health code, inspection, and sanitation rules
- navigating the regulatory and legal environment related to workers comp, liquor control, credit card laws, and more
“Allied alley” events where you’ll meet local, regional and national restaurant suppliers. Many of these Allied Members offer CRA member-only discounts.
In the end, membership in the CRA is how the local restaurant community stands together. It’s the only way we can stand together and ensure we have representation on the issues that affect our business.
