32nd Annual Lowcountry Oyster Festival is This Sunday


It’s time to get ready for some shuckin’, because the 32nd Annual Lowcountry Oyster Festival takes place this Sunday, January 25! The event will take place from 10am – 5pm at historic Boone Hall Plantation.

Highlights include the legendary “Oyster Shucking” and “Oyster Eating” Contests, live music from Muddy Kings and Eddie Bush, a selection of domestic and imported beers, the Pluff-a-Pallooza Children’s Area, 80,000 pounds of oysters, and a food court featuring local restaurants. General Admission tickets are $17.50 in advance or $25 the day of the event. VIP Tickets are also available for $100. Advance tickets can be purchased online or at any area Southcoast Community Bank, Boone Hall Farms or official visitor’s centers in Downtown Charleston and Mount Pleasant. Children 10 and under are free with purchase of adult ticket.

The Pluff-a-Pallooza Children’s Area will be a celebration of Pluff Mud, the natural habitat and home of oysters. Activities will include the world premier play of “Pearlie the Amazing Oyster” by Storytree Theatre, a Touch Tank of Lowcountry water animals, a meet-and-greet with the Charleston Waterkeepers Organization, entertainment with Miss Irene Rose on the Pluff-a-Pallooza stage, the Pluff Mud Craft Tent, the Sweet Grass Palace, Pluff Muddy Buddies balloon animals, Pluff Mud Cookie Decorating, Corey the Stilt Guy, limbo with local mascots, photo opportunities, an interactive noise play area, an air-dancer, a jump castle, and much more.

Shuttle Service will be provided by Lowcountry Loop Trolley from Downtown and Mount Pleasant. There will be one trolley loop for Downtown that will stop at the Downtown Visitor Center, Liberty Square (between the Aquarium and Ft. Sumter Tours), and Boone Hall. The Downtown loop will run approximately every hour and fifteen minutes starting at 9:15am until6:00pm. For the Mount Pleasant area, two trolleys will run continuously through James B. Edwards Elementary, Old Wando, and Boone Hall. A shuttle will come through each location approximately every 15-30 minutes starting at 9:30am until 6:00pm. Shuttle rides are $5 per person round trip. For those not using the shuttle service, carpooling is encouraged, and there are two entrances into the event: the main Boone Hall entrance off Long Point Road, and the entrance off HWY 17.

  1. How much is parking? I bought a VIP ticket and have learned I can purchase VIP parking? Well…… How MUCH is it? All the hoopla and write ups about the event, why is it not posted? The GCRA could do a little better in the relay of information about the details!
